How Can I be Saved?
You are now asking the greatest question anyone can ask.
Many have asked the same question before you, you'll find a man in the Bible
who asks exactly the same question in the book of Acts chapter 16 and verse 30:
"what must I do to be saved?" The answer he received is the same answer I pass
onto you: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved."
There are 3 great things God commands us to believe with our whole heart to
become a Christian:
1 - That we are sinners before him and in desperate need of forgiveness and
cleansing from our sins. Romans chapter 3 verse 23 tells us:
"for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God"
Because of my sin I am separated from God (Isaiah chapter 59 and verse2)
"but your iniquities have separated between you and your God," because of
this I am thus utterly miserable and my heart cries out for God (read Psalm
42) and yet is never satisfied because there exists a barrier of sin between
me and God. If I die without my sins removed I will be eternally lost to the Lake of
Fire and eternal judgement, "And whosoever was not found written in the book
of life was cast into the lake of fire" (Revelation chapter 20 verse 15).
2 - God loved me and gave His son the Lord Jesus Christ to die for, suffer
for and pay the price for my sin. John chapter 3 verse 16 tells us:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever
believes in Him need not perish but have everlasting life."
Again in 1 Corinthians chapter 15 verse 3 we read "Christ died for our sins
according to the scriptures, He was buried and rose again the third day
according to the scriptures." and 1 Peter chapter 3 verse 18 reads:
"Christ has once suffered sin the just for we the unjust that he might bring
us to God." When Christ died on the cross at Calvary He was paying the
price and bearing the punishment for sin.
3 - God now commands me to repent of my sin, that is to be sorry for my sin
and turn from my sin, "God now commandeth all men everywhere to repent"
(Acts chapter 17 verse 30) and to believe with my whole heart that His Son
the Lord Jesus Christ is my only hope of salvation:
" I AM the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father but by Me."
(the words of Christ in John chapter 14 verse 16).
God expects me to believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins
and has been raised again from the dead and so is able to save me.
If I call upon God to save me and believe in Christ as my Saviour I can
take God at His word: "If you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus
and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you shall be saved"
(Romans chapter 10 verse 9).
There is no other means of salvation, no other way to heaven and no
alternative means of having my sin forgiven, "For there is no other name
under heaven given amongst men whereby you must be saved."
Do you want to be saved? Do you want to become a Christian? You can be saved
right now where you are without any assistance from any other person. It is
between you and God. Call upon Him now. He has promised that He will hear
you're cry for salvation: "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the
Lord shall be saved" (Romans chapter 10 verse 13). Simply believe and
receive Gods gift of eternal salvation.
Once you have put your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and saviour, speak
to God in prayer at least every day and get to know God by reading His word the
Bible. Gods book is a living book and you will find that Gods Spirit will
guide you through the pages of this book and answer every question of your
heart and mind.
